Hives

Symptoms:

  • Swelling around the muzzle.
  • Swelling around the eyes, which can cause them to close.
  • Excessive scratching.
  • Drooling, if the muzzle starts to swell.
  • Break out of raised, circular lumps and bumps
  • Swelling in the throat (can result in anaphylaxis, an emergency situation)

    • Common Causes: 

    Insect stings or bites, including bee stings and spider bites. Vaccines, primarily following an injection of a vaccine, like rabies or Bordetella (also known as Kennel Cough). Food allergies. A chemical reaction, primarily to insecticides used to treat grass. Plants, including poison ivy or oak.

    Natural Remedies:

    If the hives are not severe, we recommend the following - Application of Coconut, Neem, Hemp seed oil to soothe and heal the area. Allowing the dog to lay on cool surfaces, such as a cooling mat, to offer relief. Bathing them with mild shampoos. Adding plain yoghurt to their diet.
